SAVE THE DATE!!
   By now, most of you should have heard about our epic upcoming 50th Reunion planned for July 13th, 2019 at the Palomino Ballroom near Zionsville. The owner of this beautiful facility is our very own classmate, Ray and Debbie Head, who have graciously volunteered their facility for our celebratory event. 
   Make sure you reserve the date for next summer -- Saturday evening, July 13th, 2019. Reunion chairperson Patti Flanigan Medvescek has reserved a block of rooms at the nearby Embassy Suites North at a special, reduced rate. Be sure to ask for the Red Devil Reunion rate for your discount. There are also several other hotels located near the Palomino Ballroom event venue, if you wish to stay elsewhere. 
   Kudos to Patti and to Debra Streets Meyer, who worked on locating contact information for MOST of our surviving classmates. I believe we located all but 40 of our Class of '69 alumni.  I will include all the names of class members we have contacted in upcoming days, so you can make plans to meet up with your old friends and get to know those you didn't know very well during our high school years.  If you've missed past Pike High Reunions, you won't want to miss out on this one. It promises to be bigger and better than ever before!
   Tentative plans call for the official Reunion to run from 5-9 pm at the Palomino Ballroom, with an event price around $40 per person, which will cover the meal, the room, decorations and mailing expenses. We are asking for checks or money orders in advance, in lieu of PayPal, in order to avoid the extra fees associated with these accounts. More details about tickets and payment will be coming soon.Your SAVE THE DATE cards will be mailed out this week, so be watching for them in your mailbox.

  We are so excited to bring you this once-in-a-lifetime event, and really hope you will plan to be there to enjoy it with us.

   We want to hear what you would like to see in upcoming weeks in this blog. I would be very happy to share old photos from high school days, past reunions, and your life, if you would simply email me the information to randall_moser@att.net.  Please include as many image files as possible and I will try to keep updating this blog on a regular basis.
   And if you are unable to attend this 50th Reunion event, people have already requested that you send us a brief summary of your life since graduation, along with any photos so we can share them with your classmates.
   And for those we know well, there are always a few not familiar with your life, so please also drop me a line. I hope to see my email FULL of information and old photos of you in the next few weeks.

    I have to say ... the most challenging part of a reunion is finding everyone and Debbie Streets Meyers really got us moving and did most of the work!

PIKE HIGH SCHOOL BUILT IN 1938

THE OLD PIKE HS THAT WE REMEMBER The second high school in Pike Township was built in 1938, on the southeast corner of W. 71st Street and Zionsville Road.  It too was called New Augusta High School for the first few years of its existence, but by 1945 was renamed Pike High School.  When yet another new Pike Township high school was constructed in the 1960s, the existing facility then became Lincoln Junior High School and later still, Lincoln Middle School.  That building no longer exists either. When the building that would become the second of the three high schools in Pike Township first opened, it housed children from first grade through twelfth grade.  The twelve small district schools sprinkled throughout the township were closed, and all students in all grades were sent to the new building.  Gradually, new elementary schools were built throughout Pike Township to replace the old schoolhouses, and the younger students then returned to the schools in the ...

GLEAMING, NEW HIGH SCHOOL OPENS IN 1965 The third incarnation of Pike High School was built in 1965 on land south of second high school. Our class was the first to go all 4 years through that building. There wasn't much in the surrounding area at that time. Notice the young trees in the foreground -- the new Legendary Hills Subdivision on 71st and Zionsville Road. The current Pike High School has had numerous additions and enhancements over its 54 years of existence. As men tioned above, the building that had previously served as the high school for about a quarter of a century became a junior high school (Lincoln) in 1965 and later a middle school. Think you know a lot about Pike High School?  If you thought the old high school at 71st and Zionsville Road was the original, you would be mistaken.  If you guessed the old building around 52nd and Lafayette Road.that became Earl's Auction, you would also be incorrect.   The building that once stood on the southeast corner of West 52nd Street and Lafayette Road has frequently been mistaken as having been a former location of Pike High School. The three-story brick structure with stone trim was indeed a Pike Township public school, but it was never a high school.  It was an elementary school that housed grades 1-8.
